Feel free to give it a miss. Disappointing show with 2 dimensional characters. The plot moves too quickly to allow relationships between the characters to develop. In fact, the only people that had a decent conversation are:

1) Eragon with his mentor Brom
2) the tyrant king with his underling the sorcerer
3) the sorcerer and his minions

The elf girl and Eragon didn’t even talk much, and yet there they are holding hands and stuff. My god. Get a better scriptwriter man!

Great special effects for the dragon though. A shame the show lacks soul. The fact that I can’t even recall the names of the characters even though I just finished watching the movie half an hour ago shows how forgettable they are.

Almost every fantasy movie released nowadays will be drawn in comparison to LOTR. Maybe LOTR has set such a high standard for the fantasy genre that anything falling short looks shabby. I always find myself comparing epic battle scenes to the Battle of Helm’s Deep or the Battle for Minas Tirith. But as epic as it was, I will always remember LOTR for the well developed characters - something that the sequel for Eragon definitely has to learn from.

Booking in is damn sian lah. Haha. I can’t believe I’m saying this even though it’s like just 1.5 months more to ORD. It’s ok lah, I mean when we’re in camp it’s like wake up at 6am for breakfast, sleep until time for lunch, then do some execises for fun [no lah, actually the exercise is not for fun one. I’m trying for NUS soccer next year. But it’s Secret Training. Shhhh…]. After that we go for night off and book in at 11pm. It’s like heaven right? Haha. I’ve beared through 2 years of shit just for this moment.

But the thing is, book in must SHAVE. I was growing kinda fond of my facial hair… T_T

grow facial hair for a cheeky grin

Whew. Just came back from a match at VJC against some track team. Boy was it fun! I think I’m getting addicted to this.

They had speedy strikers but their only goal was from a bullet header during a corner. James equalised with a wonder goal. It was a curling strike from outside the box which sailed right into the top left-hand corner. The keeper had no chance whatsoever. We took the lead after Felix whipped in a cross from the left and James headed the ball in in the ensuing goalmouth scramble. It wasn’t long before our striker Daniel latched on to a through ball, and with plenty of time and space before him, calmly pulled the score to 3-1.

Their fast players took a toll on my stamina and I had to sub myself off after making a series of errors. But luckily no goal was conceded.

The second half started with me playing in centre midfield instead of centre back, which I really relished. I was kinda disappointed by my lack of composure sometimes. Too ambitious I guess. Tried to hit a lot of first time passes which went haywire. Things went better after I started controlling the ball before I passed. In fact, I felt kinda free of shackles because I could go about tackling without worrying about the backline. I even managed to put my name on the scoresheet, which was sublime. I made a run behind their centre back. Daniel spotted me and send me a through ball. It was a bit too far, but the keeper made a horrendous error by not coming out to intercept. I managed to poke the ball between his legs =p Some sort of fluke, because I was aiming for his left, but they all count in the end. Haha. I actually scored. Still can’t believe it!

Anyway, to put things to a close, it was REALLY REALLY FUN. Haha.

I just finished watching Band of Brothers again. It was the episode I missed out on because the disc was faulty. The one about the Holocaust. I still can’t figure out how we are capable of such cruelty. Such apathy for another human being. No language need be understood except for the pain etched on the faces of the victims in the concentration camp. How can anyone bear so much hatred in them?

It brings me to tears when I think about the sacrifices that our forefathers have made, just so that we can live our lives the way we are living now. It makes our own “plight” seem irrelevant. When they were talking of being sent to Okinawa to fight the war in the Pacific Theatre, I just couldn’t help thinking about my impending trip to Japan next year. Just a few decades ago soldiers were spilling their guts out there. And now it is a tourist destination.

Each breath we take was bought by blood they have bled in our place. Is it enough that we build pieces of concrete, brick and mortar in their name?

They fired their rifles and got shot at so that we don’t have to. I’ll be damned if I have anything to do with a firearm after NS.
