I just finished watching Band of Brothers again. It was the episode I missed out on because the disc was faulty. The one about the Holocaust. I still can’t figure out how we are capable of such cruelty. Such apathy for another human being. No language need be understood except for the pain etched on the faces of the victims in the concentration camp. How can anyone bear so much hatred in them?

It brings me to tears when I think about the sacrifices that our forefathers have made, just so that we can live our lives the way we are living now. It makes our own “plight” seem irrelevant. When they were talking of being sent to Okinawa to fight the war in the Pacific Theatre, I just couldn’t help thinking about my impending trip to Japan next year. Just a few decades ago soldiers were spilling their guts out there. And now it is a tourist destination.

Each breath we take was bought by blood they have bled in our place. Is it enough that we build pieces of concrete, brick and mortar in their name?

They fired their rifles and got shot at so that we don’t have to. I’ll be damned if I have anything to do with a firearm after NS.
