Went to the park today. Used the 35mm SLR camera I borrowed from Jiahui. Took some really excellent pictures. I thought they were good enough to be framed and put on display in my new house.
The zoom is excellent. It’s a 28mm-210mm, which is about 7.5x zoom. The camera’s manual, so every time I take a picture I have to wind it. The shutter gives a mechanical ‘click’ sound, which is damn satisfying to hear. Haha. Shiok.
Alas, I got the shock of my life when I went to collect the photos. Both rolls of film were blank! Somehow I didn’t load the film properly, so it didn’t advance when I wound the camera. I was so fucking pissed off!
Pure stupidity. Turned out that there’s a different way of loading for manual 35mm cameras. You’re supposed to insert the film into a groove in the spool. It turns out that all those years when I was younger I was using the improper way of loading the film. I just pressed the film in anyhow, but it still worked cos it was electronic and sorted itself out.
Great. For the next few days I can expect to be the laughing stock in the family for my “pro” camera skills. Haha.
